Richmond’s ever-changing food scene welcomes yet another new addition.
This time, it’s a spot for lovers of classic Hong Kong-style breakfast.
A community member (@eatswitheva) gave us the scoop on Cha Don, the newly opened food stall in Empire Centre’s food court, serving up HK-style cafe classics and all-day breakfast.
Cha Don is a sister food stall to Cha Kee, a popular stall in President Plaza food court known for its homey Hong Kong dishes in Richmond.
Cha Don’s menu stays true to the comforting essence of HK cafe staples (and similar to Cha Kee’s menu).
You’ll find items like silky scrambled eggs, satay beef with instant noodles, classic macaroni with ham, and spicy pork chop with rice vermicelli—all HK breakfast favs.
There are also set meals like the Cha Kee Fish Fillet with Egg Noodles or Rice Vermicelli ($11), as well as the Hong Kong-Style Sour and Spicy Pork with Rice Vermicelli or Chicken Cutlet ($14).
Each meal can be paired with a drink, with the option to add extras like egg or sausages for a small fee.
For now, the menu they have is only in Chinese.
You’ll have to resort to Google Translate if you can’t read Chinese.
Unlike Cha Kee, Cha Don has some exclusive items (ie. baked items and rice items) AND less of a line.
But even without any Google listing and only its second day of opening, Cha Don already drew in a small crowd when we visited on a Monday afternoon.
The stall is open from 9AM to 4:30PM and takeout is available.
If the success of Cha Kee in President Plaza is any indicator, Cha Don looks set to enjoy a similar warm reception.
The Empire Centre food court is one of Richmond’s hidden gems, often bustling with locals and frequented by loyal fans of well-known stalls like James Snack, Prataman Express, and Cloud 9.
Now, with the recent openings of both Cha Don and Rice Holic, locals in the area can enjoy both Taiwanese and Hong Kong-style breakfasts under one roof.
