After nearly two years of Frissants on campus, another UBC food spot is officially done.

Swiss Bakery has shut down its UBC location on University Boulevard, with April 17 marking the team’s final day of operation.

The announcement came directly from Swiss Bakery on their Instagram, where the team described it as a difficult decision to make after two wonderful years on campus.

In the post, they thanked the UBC community for all the love over the past two years and wrote that this one was not easy to say.

The UBC outpost originally opened in October 2024 inside the former Boulevard Coffee Roasting Co. space on University Boulevard.

That same Boulevard Coffee unit had been a longtime campus fixture, serving students and faculty for 18 years before it shut down.

Swiss Bakery inherited the prime corner spot and refreshed it with soft pastels and bright yellow accents for a lighter, bakery-forward vibe.

This is not the end of Swiss Bakery, though.

The team was clear in their post that the wider brand is not going anywhere.

The Mount Pleasant shop is staying open, and they have confirmed they will continue running their catering program from that location.

Swiss Bakery has been part of Vancouver’s food scene since 1993, first putting down roots in Kitsilano before becoming a Mount Pleasant staple.

Over the last three decades, the team has built a following for their European-style, hand-crafted breads, pastries, and cakes.

Their most recognizable item is the Frissant, a hybrid between a croissant and a donut.

Seasonal flavours have kept the menu rotating, with specials like Peachy Lavender, Lychee with Goji Berry, and Chai Goodness pulling regulars through the year.

No reason for the UBC closure was shared in the announcement.
