The University of British Columbia is getting a delicious new addition!
And students are about to have a fresh spot to keep caffeinated, hang out, or get some studying done.
Swiss Bakery is officially taking over the former space of Boulevard Coffee Roasting Co., the beloved cafe that served the campus for 18 years until its closure this past July.
Restaurant Agents, a commercial real estate broker specializing in restaurant sales and leasing, recently shared that they helped Swiss Bakery secure the prime UBC location.
And if the name sounds familiar, that’s because Swiss Bakery has been serving Vancouverites for over 30 years, first in Kitsilano and now as a Mount Pleasant staple.
Established in 1993, Swiss Bakery is known for its European-style hand-crafted goods, including artisan breads, pastries, and cakes.
All of these are crafted under the watchful eye of owner Michael Siu, who has over three decades of bakery experience and earned Certified Master Baker status in 2010.
One of Swiss Bakery’s most iconic treats is the “Frissant,” a hybrid between a croissant and a donut, better known globally as the “Cronut.”
These crispy, flaky, and sweet delights have become a city favourite, especially with seasonal flavours like Peachy Lavender, Lychee with Goji Berry, and Chai Goodness.
Alongside these, you’ll find all the classic baked goods you’d expect—from croissants to cream puffs—plus a range of caffeinated beverages.
The new UBC location brings a fresh look, with an interior design featuring soft pastels and pops of bright yellow that give it a modern yet cozy vibe.
The space includes a seating area with contemporary round tables paired with bright yellow perforated chairs, along with a raised section adorned with planters full of greenery and flowers.
The trendy design is the perfect ambiance for catching up on coursework or unwinding between lectures.
Swiss Bakery’s arrival helps fill the void left by Boulevard Roasting and adds yet another enticing option to the growing list of new food spots popping up at UBC.
According to the post by Restaurant Agents, the bakery is set to open this week.
And while this opening is sure to draw a crowd, there’s still one big name everyone is waiting for: Big Way Hot Pot, which, though delayed due to permits, remains one of the campus’s most anticipated additions.
For now, Swiss Bakery is here to add some extra sweetness to campus life—so get ready for Frissants, fresh bread, and cozy study vibes!
