If Coquitlam’s Henderson Place Mall has been your go-to for quick, comforting meals over the years, you noticed when a legend left the building.
We previously reported that Deer Garden, a Hong Kong-style staple in Coquitlam, was preparing to close after roughly 20 years in the area.
It officially closed at the end of November 2025.
Now, that massive void is being filled.
The space appears to be getting a full reset with a completely different concept stepping in.
Instagram creator maiaaeatsaway spotted the signage for West End Vietnamese restaurant, Ong Ba, taking over the unit.
Ong Ba’s social team reshared the Instagram story, confirming it is the real deal!
This marks their second location in Metro Vancouver.
For anyone who has not been to Ong Ba yet, the restaurant is best known for serving traditional Vietnamese dishes with a twist.
The name Ong Ba translates to grandpa and grandma, and the brand frames the concept as a nod to family and the people who built the table before us.
On the menu, they lean into crowd-pleasers like phở, bánh mì, and vermicelli bowls, with a few signature flexes that make it feel a bit more modern.
That includes a beef rib phở, a Hà Nội-style fish vermicelli platter, and Vietnamese coffee drinks.
There is currently no opening date posted for the Coquitlam location, and the signage simply teases that it is coming soon.
Still, the move makes a lot of sense.
Henderson Place sits right in the middle of a busy Coquitlam stretch and is the kind of mall where people actually sit down to eat.
If you’re hoping to be first in line, your best bet is to keep an eye on Ong Ba’s Instagram for build-out updates and any soft opening hints.
