After more than 12 years, a Richmond sandwich shop that felt more like a family kitchen has closed its doors.
Smokehouse Sandwich Co. served its final meal on February 14, 2026, ending a run that began when owner Rico Verzosa opened the shop back in November 2013.
“After much prayer and reflection, we’re sharing that Smokehouse Sandwich Co. will be operating for two more weeks, with our final day of service on February 14,” the announcement read.
The post was signed “The Smokehouse Family” and drew nearly 1,000 likes.
During the final week, the shop went back to basics.
They served a limited menu from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., or until they ran out, featuring their original sandwiches: Samson, Billie, Wilbur, and Sarah.
“Once they’re gone for the day, they are gone,” the post read.
The comments told the story of what the shop meant to people.
“Rico you are a blessing! We owe a debt of gratitude for opening up Smokehouse and allowing us start our own business journey. Smokehouse will be missed!” wrote @elmobakingco.
“Smokehouse was a true hidden gem,” another regular added.
Smokehouse Sandwich Co. was run by Rico and his wife Celia Verzosa.
Rico’s love for cooking started in his grandmothers’ kitchens in the Philippines, and he brought that heritage into everything on the menu.
Nearly everything served at the shop was made in-house from scratch.
The restaurant was known for its Filipino-inspired smoked meat sandwiches, including a sisig pork hash sandwich that put Filipino flavours into an accessible format for all diners.
The farewell post ended with a line that has fans hopeful: “PS: KEEP FOLLOWING THIS PAGE FOR UPDATES!”
No details have been shared about what might come next, but the message suggests the Verzosa family may not be exactly done.
Smokehouse Sandwich Co. now joins other recently closed food spots in Richmond like Seto Sushi, MACU Tea on Capstan Way, and Garaku.
