Vancouver’s Kerrisdale Ramen Bar Has Shut Down After 6 Years

A Kerrisdale ramen bar that went dark this summer is officially done.

They aren’t coming back.

ZUBU Ramen, at 2129 West 41st Avenue, first closed in July.

At the time, ZUBU announced on Instagram that the Kerrisdale shop was “temporary closed.”

The brand said it had been told of “an unexpected situation involving the independent franchise operator” of the location, and that the goal was “reopening the Kerrisdale location and serving the community again as soon as possible.”

In the comments, one follower said a notice on the door told a different story: “Due to business restructuring, our restaurant is now closed.”

Even so, the official word left room for a comeback.

That door has now closed for good.

A Noms Mag community member spotted signs for a new dumpling spot taking over the unit.

ZUBU itself is a local story.

It opened on May 30, 2020, with Kerrisdale as one of its first ramen bars.

Founder Tim Yu had been running several local Jinya Ramen franchises, before he left that brand and relaunched under his own ZUBU name.

He’s also behind Nana’s Green Tea here, and the two brands already share a downtown address, where Nana’s took over part of ZUBU’s Hornby Street flagship earlier this year.

So this isn’t the end of ZUBU in Metro Vancouver.

The July post said the Downtown Vancouver, Metrotown and Park Royal locations stayed open, and all three are still listed on ZUBU’s website.

If Kerrisdale was your ramen stop, the closest bowl now is the downtown flagship on Hornby Street, or the Metrotown shop in Burnaby.

ZUBU Kerrisdale joins other recent Vancouver closures like MYST Asian Bistro just down West 41st, Raclette Steaks and Dong Tai Xiang Shanghai Dim Sum.
