If you have been paying attention to the block near Joyce and Kingsway, you already know this stretch has been going through it lately.
Well, there’s another change.
Earlier this week, we spotted a new bright yellow sign for a spot called Namba Curry, taking over the previous Oh My Toast unit.
Based on the signage, they will be offering Japanese curry and ramen.
But here is the part that makes it interesting.

The Namba Curry team confirmed with us that they are actually the same crew behind Oretachi Curry, the Osaka-born Japanese curry brand that already has locations in Steveston and on Main Street.
“We’ve been really lucky to be loved by many already, and this new concept is kind of our next step,” they told Noms Magazine.
So this is not just another curry shop showing up on Kingsway.
This is Oretachi’s people opening a second concept under a new name.
The big shift is in the ramen.

They shared that at Oretachi, the ramen runs on an ebi miso broth.
Whereas at Namba Curry, they are going full classic tonkotsu, long-simmered with more attention to depth and balance.
The team says the broth pairs especially well with their creamy curry and spices, and it is the signature item they are building the new menu around.
The curry base stays the same, still built on the same 20-plus spice blend that made Oretachi a destination in the first place.
Katsu is staying on the menu too, along with the toppings that regulars already know and come back for.

The name is a direct nod to where it all started.
Oretachi Curry was founded back in 2012 in the Namba district of Osaka by Mr. Sugimura, where it earned a reputation as one of the “The best Curry in Osaka” on the popular Japanese TV show “YOUは何しに日本へ.”
In 2023, Oretachi opened its first North American store in Steveston Village.
Part of the reason for choosing Kingsway was about reach.
“We also wanted to create something closer for people around Burnaby, Burquitlam, and the Tri-Cities, so they can enjoy our food without having to travel too far,” the team said.
The restaurant is still in the renovation phase, with an opening expected sometime in May 2026.
This area of Kingsway has been BUSY with changes.
88 Supermarket is in the process of replacing the longtime London Drugs nearby, Trees Coffee is heading into the new development at the corner, and Fortune Lamb Dining, the Northern Chinese lamb specialist just a few doors down, recently shut down after eight years.
Namba Curry joins other upcoming food spots in Vancouver, including No Ne Kitchen and Bar, Chayan Robson, and Lee’s Donut Langara.
