A quiet corner of Kingsway just lost the lamb spot that locals never stopped talking about.
Fortune Lamb Dining, known in Chinese as 鸿羊轩, has shut down after eight years along Kingsway in Vancouver.
Locals on Red Note were the first to notice in early April 2026, spotting the shop closed with no announcement.
Then around the third week of April, new signage went up for a Uyghur restaurant in the same unit.
That new spot has since opened as of the last weekend of April, meaning the transition happened fast.
Fortune Lamb opened back in 2018 as a small, no-frills room on a stretch of Kingsway that most people drive past without a second look.
It never chased social media hype or flashy branding.
What it did instead was cook lamb, and cook it well enough that a loyal Chinese community kept coming back for years.
The menu was built entirely around the animal.
Cumin lamb fried noodles, lamb skewers, lamb hot pot.
If it involved lamb, Fortune Lamb probably had a version of it on the board.
The hot pot was the signature draw, the kind of warming, slow-cooked session that regulars would plan their evenings around.
The skewers were a reliable side order, well-spiced and charred the way they should be.
And the cumin lamb noodles carried a punch of northern Chinese flavour that tied the whole menu together.
It was the definition of a hole-in-the-wall.
Small dining room, simple decor, nothing fancy on the walls.
For the Chinese dining crowd along Kingsway, losing Fortune Lamb stings.
The space turning over to a Uyghur restaurant means the block keeps its connection to Central and Northern Chinese cooking, which is something.
But the lamb hot pot that anchored this corner for close to a decade is done.
