The neon OPEN sign in the window at 496 Drake settles an argument we reported twenty days ago.
Back then the online listings insisted G3 Kitchen and Bar was already serving while the windows still said opening soon. The windows have caught up.
G3 opened in Yaletown in the week of July 22, in the old Kurotaki space on Drake Street.
The full menu is now posted in the window, and it is as hard to file under one flag as the signage suggested.
The Indian side is the spine of it.
Samosas are $10, G3 paneer tikka and tandoori tacos are $18 each, creamy chicken tikka is $20, and loaded hummus with pita is $17.
Bowls run a butter chicken at $26 and a lamb rogan josh at $28, both served with basmati, naan, pickled onions and a green salad.
Then the menu turns a corner into a section called The Chef’s Anchor.
That is where spaghetti and chicken parmesan lands at $28, next to a cajun chicken pasta at $25, a crispy chicken brioche burger at $22, a Greek chicken bowl at $24 and a vegan chickpea coconut curry bowl at $21.
There is a kids special at $13, three chicken tenders with fries and a pop.
Dessert keeps the Indian thread to the end, with gulab jamun and rasmalai at $8, and a Black Magic at $9 that is gulab jamun with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
One thing about the posted menu is worth noting.
For a room calling itself Kitchen and Bar, in a unit that came with a liquor licence, the drinks page runs refreshers and mocktails. Mango lassi at $8, a rose and mint lemonade at $6, a spicy guava spritzer and a virgin mojito.
No alcohol appears on the window menu, though a separate bar list inside is entirely possible.
The room itself is the part Kurotaki paid for.
High wood-slat ceilings over exposed black ductwork, a textured white sculptural wall, black steel-framed partitions, brick, patterned floor tile, and cane-backed armchairs around a long wood communal table.
A blue neon G3 glows in the front window, and the tables were dressed with glassware when we walked by.
That inheritance is the quiet story here.
Kurotaki, the Taiwanese and bubble tea hybrid, opened in January 2022 and ran about three and a half years in this 1,900 square foot room with 60 seats and a liquor licence.
The space had been listed at $279,000 after the previous owner sank more than $600,000 into the buildout, so G3 walked into a finished kitchen rather than bare walls.
G3 Kitchen and Bar joins other recently opened Vancouver food spots like Shack Stack in the West End, Angus T on Davie Street, and Pallet Coffee in Olympic Village.
