The Team Behind Yaletown’s Dovetail Just Opened A Steakhouse Two Minutes Away

The team behind one of Yaletown’s busiest restaurants opened a second one two minutes from the first, on purpose.

Bevel opened in mid-August at 1165 Mainland Street, in the space that used to be MeeT in Yaletown, and it comes from the same team behind Dovetail down the street.

Both belong to Text Me When You Land Hospitality, and the two rooms sit about two minutes apart.

That closeness is actually deliberate.

Brand and marketing director Jenn Hang told Daily Hive the point was to extend the group’s hospitality beyond one set of doors and let guests dance between both venues.

Hang is a co-owner alongside Colin Denton, with chef Ejner Christiansen the third owner in the kitchen.

The pitch is a New York-inspired neighbourhood restaurant where the warmth of a modern steakhouse meets family-style share plates, New York-style pizza and a dialled martini program.

In practice that means a room built around its bar.

“A busy bar is a busy restaurant,” Denton told the Georgia Straight, which described Bevel as darker, moodier and unmistakably New York next to its sister room.

The menu runs steakhouse proteins with sides you choose, alongside pastas and share plates.

The pizza is the part everyone keeps landing on.

Christiansen worked the dough for three years and roughly 150 versions before signing off on it, and it now ferments for 72 hours.

Diners have found it fast. The restaurant is holding a 4.8 on Google across more than 100 reviews inside its first month.

The room keeps late hours by Vancouver standards, open from 11am to midnight Sunday through Thursday and to 1am on Friday and Saturday.

Bevel joins other recently opened Vancouver spots including Chef Hyve Commercial Drive, SUMU Burrard, and French Creek Pub DT.
