After 2 Years, Richmond’s Korean Hot Dog Shop Just Reopened Across From Richmond Centre

A Tesla took out the original Richmond shop two years ago, and locals have been waiting for the brand to COME BACK ever since.

Chung Chun has officially returned to Richmond, with the Korean rice hot dog chain quietly soft-opening its new shop directly across from CF Richmond Centre.

A Noms Magazine community member (abowlofhappniess) tipped us off after their friend spotted the doors open, and our visit confirmed it.

Staff were still clearly in training mode, with a manager walking them through orders and prep.

For anyone unfamiliar with the lore, the original Chung Chun in Richmond opened back in 2021 at the corner of No. 3 Road and Westminster Highway.

It closed in early 2023 after a Tesla drove INTO the front of the shop.

Cars running into storefronts have become a Richmond joke ever since.

The unit sat in repair limbo for over a year before eventually being sold off and rebranded into a Shawarma 2 Go Grill, which closed the door on any hope of a return to that exact corner.

But earlier this winter, a Noms Mag community member spotted the sign for Chung Chun returning at this Paramount Building unit.

Inside, the counter and kitchen take up most of the footprint, with a mural of a black and yellow city skyline and the word RICHMOND filling the wall.

Two black dine-in tables sit under the mural for anyone who wants to stay, though the layout reads more grab-and-go than sit-down.

Menu wise, it basically mirrors the other chain locations.

We got the Beef and Mozzarella hot dog ($7.49 single) and had it topped with the sweet potato coating (+$1.99).

The cubed sweet potato wraps the outside like armour, with the chewy fermented rice flour batter visible underneath where the coating breaks open.

For sauces, the wall behind the counter runs nearly a dozen options including mustard, garlic powder, and a handful of sweet and spicy syrups, but we kept it basic with sweet chili and ketchup.

If you’re looking for that iconic cheese pull – and some meat – the Beef & Mozzarella one is the one to get.

According to the sign outside, the shop runs daily from 11am to 11pm, though staff could not confirm those hours when we asked.

Chung Chun now joins a busy stretch of recent Richmond openings including Unique Bakery Union Square, Yummy Rice Roll, and Happy Bowl Kitchen.
