A Quebec Poutine Joint Is Taking Over Davie Village’s Former Taco Spot

The shuttered taco unit on Davie Street is about to come back, and the next tenant is a poutine chain that has been quietly stacking Vancouver locations.

La Quebec Poutine has signage up at the former Gringo unit on Davie Street, with a coming soon banner taped across the window teasing a grand opening.

This Davie Village address will be the chain’s third Vancouver shop.

La Quebec Poutine already runs a Point Grey location and another on Kingsway, with the Kingsway shop opening earlier this year in February.

The brand introduces itself on Instagram as “Born in Québec. Loved in Vancouver,” and pitches the menu as comfort, tradition, and flavour in every bite.

The chain leans on a deep poutine list that runs well past the gravy and cheese curd default.

According to DoorDash, the two Most Ordered plates are the La Chicken Bolognese poutine and the La Butter Chicken Bolognese poutine, both built with Italian style bolognese stacked on coated fries and curds, the butter chicken version layered with an Indian style butter sauce on top.

That is a clear pivot away from the strict Quebec format, and the rest of the menu follows the same logic.

The poutine list also stretches into fish 65 prawn and haddock toppings, Italian style beef bolognese, pepperoni, Philly cheese steak, charcoal grill chicken kebab, peri peri, tandoori paneer, and chicken manchurian builds.

There is even a breakfast poutine row built like an eggs Benedict, with a poached or scrambled egg sitting on top of the curds, gravy, and fries.

Burgers and a Classic Poutine round out the rest of the menu, so this is not a single product shop.

The Davie Street strip has cycled through tenants quickly in recent years, and the Gringo unit is the latest to flip.

No grand opening date has been published yet.

The Instagram has only said the new spot is opening soon, and the storefront banner agrees with that.

La Quebec Poutine joins a growing list of upcoming Vancouver food spots, including Nana’s Green Tea Downtown, Ramen Danbo Main, and Time Out Market Vancouver.
