One of Vancouver’s top donut shops has just quietly opened its newest location.
Mello quietly opened its Robson cafe on August 11, in the Landmark on Robson development at 1400 Robson Street.
It has been a location that we’ve been keeping a close eye on for months.
The brand recently teased this Robson location, but no opening date was ever mentioned.
A tip came in from a Noms Magazine member that the doors might be opening, so we swung by.
They were right.
The Korean brioche donut shop first opened back in 2019 and has built its name on fluffy cream-filled rounds it makes from scratch across a two day process.
Mello lost its Arbutus cafe on February 17, 2025, when the building was approved for redevelopment into a six-storey mixed-use project.
That shop had run about three years, and it was the one with room to sit.
Now this Robson location brings back that sit-down cafe concept, but with two floors.
The ground floor is mostly counter and kitchen, with two display cases angled so you can read every flavour card before you order.
The regular donut lineup is all still there in the case, matcha, cereal milk, strawberry and cream, tiramisu, nutella.
What’s special at this Robson location are the donut sandwiches and financiers.
The financiers run fig cream cheese, caramel pecan, chocolate, and gorgonzola.
The savoury donut sandwiches are the ones worth the trip across town, a truffle ham cheese, a basil tomato salami, and a fruit sando, each split and packed like a sandwich rather than filled like a pastry.
Beside the display case is a shelf filled with merchandise and misc. items.
Mello water bottles and keychains and masking tape sitting next to other businesses’ coffee beans, tableware, and sauces.
There are a handful of wall seats down here and not much more.
Upstairs is where you’ll find more seating.
Tables, a communal table, and wall seating fill a mezzanine designed like something you would walk into in Seoul, minimalist bones with the whimsy turned up.
A cloud-shaped table, a giant half moon mirror, speckled terrazzo stools in yellow and cream, and the ductwork painted the same soft sand as the walls.
If you’ve been to the previous Arbutus location, this playful vibe returns from those days.
Every table up here has a wall socket beside it, which will not go unnoticed by the laptop crowd.
This Robson location is in soft open mode, meaning that it will close at around 5pm or 6pm every day for the next two weeks.
Afterwards, they’ll push the closing time to later in the evening.
