For years, the main thing standing between me and my favourite tonkotsu in this city was the HUGE line outside the Robson Street shop.
As of July 15, there’s a new door, and it’s on Main Street.
Ramen Danbo, the Fukuoka-style ramen chain that consistently sits in my top ramen ranking for Vancouver, has soft opened at 3982 Main Street.

I went in the late afternoon during opening week, and here’s the honest scouting report: no line out the door, but the entire room was packed the moment I walked in.
The seating is the big change here.
This location is bar seating only, one giant U-shaped counter wrapped in red noren curtains under a little tiled roof, holding around 30 people, roughly the same count as their other Vancouver rooms.

The Danbo team previously told us the choice was deliberate, to make the vibe closer to the ramen shops in Japan.
The payoff is that every single seat faces the open kitchen.
That means you get to watch the whole dance: chefs pouring the broth, sliding noodles into the bowl, laying the chashu, handing bowls of goodness across the counter.
There’s a small waiting area beside the door, but even mid soft open, with the kitchen still dialing things in, seats turned over quickly.
Danbo fans will recognize the menu sheet the second it hits the counter.
You customize the whole bowl by ticking boxes: noodle firmness, broth richness, spice level, and the rest.

My usual is standard firmness with the slightly richer broth.
I’ve eaten Danbo well over a dozen times, and it has never failed to deliver: the thin Hakata-style noodles keep their snap, and the broth is creamy without turning overly heavy.
It is a well-loved chain by locals for a reason.

And this expansion marks the chain’s fourth Vancouver shop and fifth in Metro Vancouver.
The location details, because the windows are short: the soft opening runs July 15 to 21 with split hours, 11am to 3pm and 5pm to 10pm.
The grand opening lands July 23 at 11am, and the posted regular hours are 11am to 11pm daily.
The block itself is turning into a destination: Danbo sits right beside the upcoming TURF, the fitness-and-cafe hybrid expanding from Kitsilano, on the same Main Street stretch as the new Jo’s Italian Deli.
Ramen Danbo Main now joins a run of recently opened Vancouver spots like BBQ & Co on Cambie, Butter Crumbs downtown, and Salt & on Hamilton Street.
