A downtown Vancouver hotel just opened a market with no checkout, where you tap your card, grab what you want and walk out.
It’s called Tap & Go Market, and it’s now open in the North Tower lobby of the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Centre on Burrard Street.
The hotel announced it on Instagram, calling it Canada’s first hotel market powered by Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology.
The setup will look familiar if you’ve been to UBC.
Back in 2025, Gage Market opened in the lobby of Gage Commons as a 24/7 campus convenience store running on the same Amazon system, and we covered it when it launched.
Here’s how Tap & Go works, according to the sign inside the door.
You tap your card on the reader at the entrance to open the glass gates. Then you shop like normal, and the Just Walk Out tech keeps track of what you pick up.
When you leave, you’re charged for whatever you walked out with. There’s a QR code on the sign if you want a receipt.
The hotel’s photos show a ceiling lined with small black cameras over the shelves, which is how the system knows what’s in your hands.
The shelves are mostly snacks, drinks and everyday essentials, aimed at the late-night craving or the toothbrush you forgot to pack.
From the photos, there’s a strong local streak. You’ll see Hardbite chips, Prana cookies and nut snacks, and a big “Proudly Canadian” sign on the wall.
Small symbols on the shelves flag Canadian products, guest favourites and premium picks.
There are also labels for gluten-free, nut-free and vegan items, which is handy if you’re shopping for someone with restrictions.
The hotel pitches it to guests, and it’s not yet clear whether anyone walking in off Burrard can use it too.
If you’re staying at the Wall Centre or passing through the North Tower lobby, it’s the quickest snack run downtown, as long as you’ve got a tap-enabled card on you.
Tap & Go joins other new downtown spots like Läderach at Pacific Centre and Four Bite Burger and Zab Bite Express at Bentall Centre.
