You have until September 7 to eat sushi delivered by a miniature bullet train on Denman Street.
Sushi Aboard, the West End restaurant at 1047 Denman that runs orders to your table on a red and white train, has named its last day at that address.
The team announced it on Instagram on August 26, and it reads as a move rather than an ending.
“Our time at this location is coming to an end,” they wrote, before saying they are “hard at work behind the scenes getting our next location ready.”
No new address, no neighbourhood, and no reopening date was shared.
The team says progress updates and the location reveal will come through the same Instagram page, and asks people to follow along for it.
Sushi Aboard opened here in August 2020, taking over the unit that had been Cacao 70, next door to the 7-Eleven.
Six years is a long run for a restaurant that opened into the first year of the pandemic, on a street that turns over as fast as any in the city.
What brought people back was the delivery system rather than any single roll.
This is not the rotating belt most people picture when they hear conveyor sushi, where plates circle the room and you grab whatever passes.
You order from a tablet at the table, the kitchen makes it, and a small bullet train carries the plate down a track to your seat.
A line printed along the track asks customers not to put dirty dishes back on the train, which tells you exactly how the first-timer excitement usually goes.
The menu ran through rolls, sashimi, noodles and smaller side dishes, and every $25 spent earned a chance to play a game for a reward.
It is one of the very few rooms in Vancouver serving in that format at all, which is why the news travelled past the West End.
The team notes they are closed every Monday and Tuesday, which makes the September 7 finale, a Monday, the one exception left on the calendar.
Sushi Aboard joins other recent Vancouver closures including Master Bao Kingsway, COFU Granville Island, and Unni Pastries.
