Twice now we have walked up to a Robson Street bakery during its posted hours and found the door locked.
Unni Pastries at 1773 Robson never put a closing notice in the window, and the shop still does not look totally abandoned.
Look through the glass and the room is fully intact, plants and pendant lights and the espresso machine all still in place.
The one thing missing is pastry.

Every shelf in the display case is bare, and the tiered stands on the back counter are empty.
That is the detail that separates a day off from something else.

The signals outside the shop point the same direction.
Google lists the bakery as open daily from 8am to 8pm, and a recent reviewer noted finding it closed on a Sunday inside those hours.
The Instagram account has not posted in 11 weeks.
There has been no announcement, and going by how this company handled its last closure, there is likely not going to be one.
We say that because this has happened before, in almost exactly this sequence.
Unni opened its second shop in Yaletown at 1207 Hamilton Street in May 2025, in the old Grab n Go space.

It lasted roughly two and a half months.
By mid-July 2025 the doors were shut during business hours, no statement went up on Instagram, and Google eventually marked it permanently closed.
The Yaletown room read as a test of whether the brand travelled.
It did not, and the exit was silent.
Robson is the harder loss, because Robson is where the brand actually became something.
Unni started in 2020 as a delivery-only operation run out of a commissary kitchen, filling online orders before it had a room of its own.
The Robson shop opened in spring 2023 and turned it into a destination, a small Korean bakery near Stanley Park pulling French pastry technique through Asian flavours.

It built its following on cream-filled brioche donuts in flavours like berry cheesecake and creme brulee, plus matcha tiramisu and baked buns, with Umbria Coffee Roasters on the espresso side.
There has also been a change behind the counter that predates any of this.
Unni was founded by husband and wife Garrett and Esther Lee, both bakers, and the pair left the company last year.
Unni now sits alongside a run of recent Vancouver closures like Don in Kitsilano, Simpatico, and Kuro Katsu.
