A Richmond skewer and beer bar that closed in August for “renovation” is officially gone.
Tasty BBQ & Beer Bar, at 180-7771 Westminster Highway next to Shanghai Taste, has quietly shut down after five years.
We first noticed something was off when we drove by in late August.
The Tasty BBQ sign had been stripped, leaving just its outline on the stucco, and the neon Open sign was still hanging in the door.
A pink renovation notice taped to the door, in Chinese and English and dated August 2026, said the restaurant would be closed for renovation starting August 16, 2026, and that the reopening date would be announced once confirmed.
That date never came.
The promo signage on the side of the building changed as of mid October, and now there’s a brand new sign out front for Taste of Guangzhou Restaurant, offering rice rolls, seafood, BBQ and special stir fry.
So this wasn’t a renovation.
Tasty BBQ is done, and a different concept is moving in.
It could be the same owners swapping concepts, but nobody has confirmed that yet.
Tasty BBQ opened back in March 2021 with a menu of Chinese BBQ skewers and beer and a room full of neon signs and old-style Chinese decorations.
Early coverage flagged Angus beef skewers, Beijing noodles with spicy pork, and braised pig head with crepes, served from 5pm to 11:30pm daily.
It expanded in April 2024 with a Downtown Vancouver location at 1018 Beach Avenue, but that one lasted roughly a year, and we reported it closed by June 2025.
Same script both times.
No announcement and no farewell post.
The restaurant’s Instagram hasn’t posted since 2025 and still lists the Downtown Vancouver address in its profile.
Locals had to just stumble upon it gone.
If you were holding out for the reopening, don’t.
