Another lease has run out, and this time it is taking one of Kitsilano’s most recognizable brunch and dessert spots down with it.
Their There, the longtime mochi donut and brunch cafe in the middle of West 4th, has announced it is closing this September after eight years in the neighbourhood.
The team broke the news on Monday May 25th on Instagram with their “tt” logo redrawn as a frown, citing the end of their current lease and an inability to reach renewal terms that worked for the business.
The post frames it as the start of a summer-long goodbye rather than an abrupt shutdown.
They thanked every guest, every regular, and every team member who built the cafe with them.
The announcement landed with the kind of comment chaos that confirms how attached the neighbourhood is.
Regulars dropped crying emojis and one comment simply read “I AM CRYING.”
Another lamented, “this is why nothing cool ever stays on West 4th.”
For Kitsilano regulars, Their There has been one of those default brunch stops on West 4th since 2018, and was launched by the Annalena team.
The shop is known for its rotating lineup of mochi donuts and a full brunch menu that turned the corner into a weekend destination.
The team has not said whether they plan to reopen in a new location.
The post left the door open by referring to “the next season for Their There,” but did not name a new neighbourhood or timeline.
Locals in the comments wasted no time campaigning for the relocation they want.
“Come to commercial drive!” was one of the first replies on the announcement post, echoed by a few others mentioning the East Vancouver corridor.
West 4th has seen an influx of new shops lately, with Goldie’s and Kagura opening up in the area.
But whether Their There freopens elsewhere is unknown yet.
But what’s for sure is that lines will likely only get longer as the closing date approaches.
