A revolving sushi bar is coming to downtown Vancouver’s twisting Kengo Kuma tower, in the unit Aburi Hana left empty.
Zumi Revolving Sushi Bar has its signs up at 1588 Alberni Street, and its website says it opens in winter 2026.
One of our readers (@life.withtashhh) spotted the signs in late September, and when we took a peek inside, the build was coming along.

Through the glass, orange-brown booths with woven cane backs sit under a rippling wood-slat ceiling, with the counters still marked up in blue tape.
That space was supposed to be Aburi Hana, the kaiseki restaurant from the group behind Miku and Minami, whose Toronto location had a Michelin star.
When we reported in August 2024, its signs had been swapped for “unit available” notices, and the company said the Vancouver arrival “has been postponed.”
Zumi is splitting the room three ways.
The belt carries seasonal plates you grab as they pass and pay for by the plate, while a 12-seat cedar counter in front of the chefs serves what the belt doesn’t carry.

A third option, Zumi To Go, does nigiri boxes and hand rolls for takeout.
The menu on the site starts at $4 for a plate of hamachi.
Founder Johnny Jyong, who also owns Mas Pow Pickleball Club in Richmond, tells the story in Zumi’s brand film, shot inside the unfinished unit.
He says he moved to Vancouver three years ago, fell for the city and its Japanese culture, and noticed it had no true revolving sushi bar.
The tower inspired him to build one, and the Instagram caption calls Zumi “a true revolving sushi bar, made for the city.”
Longtime locals may remember Tsunami Sushi on Robson Street, long since closed, where plates floated around the bar on little wooden boats.
Sushi Aboard on Denman sent orders to your seat on a mini bullet train for six years, before closing that spot on September 7 with a new location promised but not yet named.
And in Richmond, Mino ran a sushi belt inside a kids’ indoor playground until it closed in June.
Conveyor belt sushi in Japan has typically meant cheap and quick more than top quality.
Zumi might be different, given the address and the likely rent.
No exact opening date has been announced.
Zumi joins other upcoming Vancouver openings like Bento Cafe in Kerrisdale, Nuan Nuan Beef Noodle House in the West End and Ramen Danbo in Yaletown.
