A new Chongqing noodle and claypot rice shop is opening in Burnaby’s Crystal Mall, right beside Korean Noodle House.
It’s called Ziway, or 知味面馆 in Chinese, and we’ve been watching this unit for a while now.
Back in August, we mentioned a new noodle shop going in beside Korean Noodle House that hadn’t attached a name to itself yet.

For the past few months, it’s been quiet renovations inside, with a giant white wall put up out front and no signage anywhere on it.
In late October, a poster finally went up on the side of the unit that tells us what’s coming.
It lists two things: Chongqing xiao mian and claypot rice.

Xiao mian, which literally means “small noodles,” is Chongqing’s classic breakfast noodle, usually built on springy alkaline wheat noodles and a long list of seasonings like chili oil and Sichuan pepper.
The poster shows a bowl of noodles piled with braised meat and greens next to a claypot of rice topped with meat and bok choy.
The Chinese line across the top says preparations are in full swing, and the bottom one asks you to stay tuned.

Through a gap, you can see yellow walls and a long wood counter already built, so the room looks well along.
Now there are a TON of noodle options upstairs in the Crystal Mall food court.
Claypot rice is a different story.
We honestly can’t think of anywhere in the area doing it right now, which is the part we’re most curious about.
Ziway joins other upcoming Burnaby food spots like Cotti Coffee Metrotown, Lee’s Donuts Metrotown, and DavidsTea Metrotown.
