When it comes to bubble tea in Richmond, Union Square Shopping Centre – or what we call the Bubble Tea Plaza – has got to have the MOST bbt shops in one area.
Like literally more than 8 in the plaza.
No doubt it is a super competitive area then.
Well, we spotted one recently new shop that has quietly shut down and lost the battle in the plaza for supremacy.
Wahaha Tea, by Chinese Hangzhou Wahaha Group, opened its Union Square outpost last June, is now gone.
While walking in the plaza in late June, its front door was covered and had their lights off during regular operating hours.
Locally, it didn’t have much buzz or social presence compared to other chains. It seems Wahaha Tea couldn’t withstand the fierce competition.
But as one door closes, another opens.
The space formerly occupied by Wahaha Tea will soon be home to a new yogurt shop called Pot’o Yogurt.
According to the signage, the new shop will offer handmade yogurt ice cream and yogurt fruit salad.
