The Kerrisdale spinoff of a popular Burnaby Taiwanese restaurant is closing because of its lease.
MYST Asian Bistro, at 2028 West 41st Avenue, announced on Instagram that October 31 will be its final day at this location.
“Due to lease-related circumstances, MYST Asian Bistro will be leaving our current location,” the post reads.
It isn’t written like a final goodbye, though.
The team says it is “actively looking for a new home” and will share updates as soon as it can.
The post signs off with “See you again soon.”
The bistro soft opened on May 2, 2024, as MYST’s second Metro Vancouver restaurant, in the 41st Avenue unit Chef Hung Taiwanese Beef Noodle had left earlier that year.
The original MYST has been on Kingsway in Burnaby since 2017, and it’s known for a menu that runs more than 20 pages.
Kerrisdale got the short version.
Its Instagram bio calls the bistro “a simpler, cozier version of your favorite Taiwanese restaurant,” and its website promised a “more exclusive menu” in a “more rustic environment.”
When we covered the opening, that shorter menu kept the fan favourites: sizzling hotpots, beef noodle soups, salt and pepper popcorn chicken, Hainanese chicken, hot iron plates, dry noodles and Taiwanese rice bentos, plus bubble tea and desserts.
The closure only covers Kerrisdale.
MYST’s website still lists the Burnaby original at 6400 Kingsway and a third location in Langley at 6225 200 Street.
The same team opened Taiwan Bento 101 in Richmond’s Aberdeen Centre food court in June, serving bentos in bowls that still carry the MYST logo.
So the family is still growing, just not on 41st for now.
