Richmond’s newest beef noodle shop has just quietly opened across from CF Richmond Centre!
We were lucky to stumble upon their first day of service.
Back in December 2024, we reported on the incoming Lao Shan Dong Noodle House.
It’s a name that might ring a bell if you’re familiar with Taiwan’s beef noodle scene.

Known for its Michelin Bib Gourmand designation (good quality, good value cooking) since 2018, when the guide first arrived in Taiwan, this restaurant is a household name in the beef noodle world.
Lao Shan Dong has been serving its iconic ribbon noodles and beef broth since 1949 and for 3 generations, starting from a humble corner in a basement food court.
This Richmond branch is locally owned and operated by the team behind The One Restaurant in Burnaby.
Yes, the OG spot known for massive slushies and equally massive plates.
But this isn’t Lao Shan Dong’s first time in Metro Vancouver.
Their original Burnaby location (across from Metrotown) opened back in ~2010 and closed in 2019, but this new location feels like a proper comeback.
The new space is bright and casual, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a clean industrial feel.
Think exposed piping, a large open kitchen, and kitchen tools like wire skimmers and ladles lining the wall.
It’s got that efficient lunch spot vibe but still feels inviting enough for a sit-down meal.
We ordered the beef shank and beef tendon noodle soup with thin noodles, along with a side of deep fried chicken nuggets.
We picked the small bowl, expecting something modest and immediately did a double take when it arrived.
This “small” was easily larger than most regular portions around town.
As for the nuggets?
Crispy, seasoned strongly and piping hot.
Although we burnt our mouths with this (typical).
The menu is quite extensive with a mix of classic noodle soups, dry noodle dishes, Taiwanese-style rice bowls, and a wide list of hot and cold appetizers, ranging from marinated beef shank to gyoza and Taiwanese sausage.
There’s also wintermelon tea and milk tea for those looking for something sweet and nostalgic.
Lao Shan Dong now joins other recent new Richmond food openings like Little Pisces, Datang Hot Pot, The Venti, and Zenbu Aburi.
Will you be slurping up a bowl soon?
