Okay, deep breaths matcha lovers.
After weeks of hints and anticipation that kept Vancouverites guessing, the news we’ve all been waiting for is FINALLY here.
Cowdog, the cafe that basically took over local social media feeds, has officially revealed where its much-hyped second location is landing.
And the winner is… Kitsilano!
If you somehow missed the meteoric rise: Cowdog (named after the owner’s dog), co-owned by Joe Lee and Ryan Leenstra, exploded onto the scene, first as a pop-up at Dear Gus Snack Bar drawing wild lines.
Then, they opened its tiny (like, 8 seats tiny) but mighty first shop on Oak Street last July.
That Oak Street spot constantly has queues snaking out the door, mostly thanks to their seriously good strawberry matcha (often rated 10/10 by fans) and other matcha creations.
But ofcourse, their hojicha and coffee drinks are also well loved.
But it’s not just the drinks.
Co-owner Joe Lee is a longtime creator who keeps things refreshingly real on Youtube and TikTok, sharing wild customer encounter stories, behind-the-scenes financials, and honest taste tests.
Let’s be real: Who doesn’t love a good storytime?
Plus, their no-tip, living wage model and refusal to charge extra for oat milk earned them major brownie points.
So, when Joe started teasing a potential expansion last fall (first maybe NYC or Toronto, then hinting at a second Vancouver spot), you bet everyone (including us) got excited.
Well, today, April 15th, they dropped the confirmation bomb on Instagram: Cowdog 2 is coming to West 4th and Cypress in Kitsilano, taking over the old Freshii unit right beside the Tacofino.
According to the post, they’re aiming to open sometime around mid-May.
The announcement post was immediately flooded with excited comments, especially from folks thrilled it’s on their bike route.
This is another exciting addition for Kitsilano, which is also anticipating that mysterious new Toptable Group restaurant opening just down the street on West 4th and Vine this spring.
Are you planning on hitting up Cowdog Kitsilano when it opens? Let us know!
