The last time most of us ordered a 3 Guys, bubble tea menus still led with milk tea instead of jasmine tea.
That drink just got a new home on Cambie Street.
CoCo Bubble Tea has opened its relocated shop at 6350 Cambie Street, in the Oakridge and Langara stretch, after closing its SW Marine Drive store at the end of August.
We first reported the move back in May, when coming-soon signage went up in the unit next to Chi Cha San Chen, with Chatime already across the street.
The neon OPEN sign is on now, and the company lists the shop as its Oakridge Store.
I went in anonymously to see what the new room looks like.
It is TINY.
The counter and the drink prep station take up most of the footprint, and across from the big menu board there is a small bench and a self-order kiosk.
The layout is simple and tight, but it works for a grab-and-go tea shop.
During our visit the shop was running a buy one, get the second 50 percent off deal, which was a good excuse to order two drinks.
We went down memory lane and got the 3 Guys.
For anyone who came up on a different generation of bubble tea, that is CoCo’s milk tea loaded with pearls, pudding and grass jelly, three different chews fighting for the same straw.
It is $6.90 for a medium on the board here, and it sits in the recommended row alongside the brown sugar pearl milk tea and the mango pomelo sago.
The 3 Guys seems to have fallen out of favour lately.
Every new bubble tea shop opening around Metro Vancouver right now is built around jasmine tea or fruit tea.
But the 3 Guys is always a goodie in our books.
Langara students and Canada Line commuters now have CoCo, Chi Cha San Chen and Chatime within steps of each other, which is a WILD amount of tea for one corner.
CoCo Oakridge now joins other recently opened food spots in Vancouver like TURF Main, Ninth Cup, and Fish Cafe.
