A homegrown Vancouver coffee chain just opened its newest cafe at Fir and West Broadway, in the corner space a Trees location left behind.
JJ Bean announced the opening in early November, and a full grand opening week follows from November 9 to 15.
The company calls the room “playful, retro-inspired, and welcoming.”
When we spotted the space in October, the windows showed a curved pink counter, globe pendant lights and a long window bar with stools.

The corner has a bit of history.
It was a Trees Organic Coffee cafe run by a franchisee, and it closed in late 2025 after a dispute between the company and that franchisee.
According to Vancouver is Awesome’s report, Trees owner Peter Chiung said at the time that the franchisee had “violated the franchise agreement by purchasing unauthorized third-party food and coffee products and passing it off as Trees products,” and that the issue was never fixed after the franchisee was notified.
“I had no choice but to pull Trees’ licence away from this location,” he said.
JJ Bean first teased the move in August, calling it the brand’s arrival in South Granville.
It lands a few months after JJ Uptown, the company’s first cafe in New Westminster, opened in July.
The company was founded in Vancouver in 1996 and is named after John Neate Jr.

It says it has opened 34 cafes over those 30 years, with 25 of them still running as of September.
Not every move has been an opening.
JJ Bean walked away from its little shack beside the CBC in November 2024, and that shack is now pouring Honest to Pete coffee.

The grand opening deals are only at this cafe: 50% off baking and donuts on November 9, $2 drip and cheaper traditional drinks on November 10, and 50% off sandwiches and wraps on November 11.
From November 12 to 15, gift card purchases and reloads over $20 are 20% off, and hats are 25% off all week, while supplies last.
The cafe is open every day from 6 am to 6 pm, and JJ Bean’s cupping schedule lists a free coffee tasting here on November 19 at 1 pm.
JJ Bean joins other recent Vancouver openings like % Arabica at Oakridge Park, LOCAL Pizza on Granville Street and The Moon Martini Bar & Restaurant in Gastown.
