A cake shop from a MasterChef Canada winner is closing its Richmond and Vancouver locations on October 25, after three and a half years.
Daan Go Cake Lab, from MasterChef Canada season 7 winner Christopher Siu, shared the news on Instagram, calling it “a bittersweet end to our story.”
The announcement came just days before the last day, and the comments filled up fast with fans calling it “so sad and so sudden.”
“After an amazing three and a half years with our community, we have made the difficult decision to close our stores in British Columbia,” the team wrote.
The brand started in Toronto in 2017 and came west in 2023 with its first BC shop on Garden City Road in Richmond.
A second BC location followed in August 2025 inside the Diamond Robinson Building on West 7th Avenue in Vancouver.
Daan Go made its name on desserts that look like something else.
The Gold Thorn is a durian purée and durian mousse cake shaped like a spiky durian, and the Celebration Pig is a cake shaped like a whole roast pig, wrapped in red cellophane.
Single desserts came as a cat-topped Tira-Meow-Su, a pastry dressed up as siu mai and a little potted bonsai.
The macaron case was a zoo of its own, with a roasted milk tea panda, a Vietnamese coffee koala, a black sesame octopus and a hazelnut chocolate raccoon.
The cute stuff made Daan Go a go-to for birthday and celebration cakes, but the counter also carried simpler picks like black forest cake, tiramisu cake and croissants.
The team says the shops were part of “so many special moments, birthdays, anniversaries, and celebrations.”
If you have a gift card with money left on it, the team is asking you to come in by October 25, or to contact them if you can’t make it before then.
Everything in store will be 20% off on the last day, though the discount doesn’t apply to preorders since the team can’t promise what will be available.
The closure covers the BC shops only, and all four of the brand’s Ontario locations remain open.
Daan Go joins other recent closures like Hook at English Bay, Legendary Noodle on Denman Street and Once More in Richmond.
