10+ Best New Metro Vancouver Food Spots That Opened In 2024

While 2024 saw its fair share of restaurant closures, Metro Vancouver also welcomed an exciting number of new food spots.

Many local favs also expanded this year, indicating they’ve found something that is sticking.

We’ve compiled a list of over ten of the best new eateries that opened this year, chosen based on our personal experiences, feedback from the Noms Mag community, and what’s buzzing in the city.

1. Osterio Elio Volpe

Located in Vancouver’s Cambie Village, Osterio Elio Volpe opened its doors in March 2024.

The menu features shareable dishes inspired by coastal Italy and the Pacific Northwest, emphasizing seafood and pasta, along with an extensive drinks menu that includes various Negronis and spritzes.

Of course, anything created by the folks behind Peppino’s & Savio Volpe you can expect top-notch food and service.

And the city ate it up well – with bookings full for weeks.

2. Marugame Udon

In March 2024, Marugame Udon brought authentic Sanuki-style udon to Downtown Vancouver, marking its first Canadian location.

Ofcourse there was a massive line for the affordable udon shop for the first month of opening.

Although the lines have disappeared, Marugame Udon still sits in our regular rotation if we’re craving an affordable noodle meal in Downtown.

After all, where else can you find a satisfying bowl of noodles for $13 downtown?

Plus, it is another win for Vancouver getting this global chain ahead of Toronto!

3. Big Way Hot Pot Expansions

You can’t doubt that Big Way has a chokehold on Metro Vancouver.

We’re included.

So with new locations popping up, it is good news for everyone. In 2024 alone, they’ve expanded with locations in Kerrisdale, Richmond (number 2 location), West End, New Westminster, and Coquitlam.

More is on the way and we hope is that those notorious lines will finally ease up!

4. Long’s Noodle House Richmond

Long’s Noodle House, the beloved Shanghainese restaurant known for its delicious Xiao Long Bao, reopened in Richmond at Garden City Plaza after overcoming significant challenges (fire and food court drama).

Fans can once again enjoy favourites like the signature Xiao Long Bao and Tan Tan Noodles, alongside several traditional dishes.

5. MACU Tea Burnaby & DT

MACU Tea, a popular bubble tea brand known for its fresh fruit drinks, dominated Richmond’s bubble tea plaza since it opened.

During summer & when their viral mango drinks are back, you’ll often find a MASSIVE line at the shop.

When it comes to fresh fruit bubble tea, MACU Tea is the top one in the city.

Finally, the chain has expanded this year with a new location in Downtown Vancouver and Burnaby Metrotown area.

Like Big Way, more locations are a good thing.

6. Just Pizza

Just Pizza, the creation of chef Steven Che, offers a unique take on pizza that blends elevated classics with Asian-inspired toppings.

Known for his previous success with Wild Flour Pizza Co. in Burnaby, Steven aims to express his culture and creativity while delivering high-quality food.

The menu features two categories: Elevated Classics and Adventurous pizzas, including standout options like Chicken Tikka Masala and Filipino Breakfast.

With a focus on sourdough and customization, Just Pizza has become a sought-after destination for pizza lovers.

7. Little Pisces

Little Pisces, a taiyaki and soft-serve shop, opened its doors in Coquitlam on June 1, 2024.

We always like to see a brand transform from a pop-up to a permanent location!

Founded by friends Jacky Tian and Linda Dai, the shop offers a unique twist on traditional Japanese desserts, featuring mochi taiyaki with diverse fillings and creamy soft serve in various flavours like Banana milk.

8. Paragon Tea Room Richmond

Paragon Tea Room, known for its innovative tea offerings, opened its new Richmond location in September 2024.

Richmond locals were looking forward to finally be able to grab their fav drinks without needing to head to Vancouver.

This outpost features a similar menu from its Vancouver outpost, including popular teaspresso-based lattes and new tea-infused mochi muffins in partnership with Buttercrumbs.

9. ELEM

The dynamic new contemporary restaurant and cocktail lab opened its doors on November 19, 2024, in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant area.

Curated by chef Vish Mayekar, known for his bold flavours and previous success on Top Chef Canada, ELEM offers a fusion of global spices with locally sourced ingredients.

The menu celebrates diversity with dishes inspired by Vish’s travels and South Asian roots, including Cone Cabbage with Taleggio fondue and BC Dungeness Crab Toast.

The cocktail lab, led by beverage director Winnie Sun, presents innovative drinks inspired by the four elements and caters to the rising interest in zero-proof alternatives.

10. Oretachi Curry Main Street

Oretachi Curry, known for its authentic Osaka-style dishes, officially opened its first Vancouver location in November 2024.

Located on Main Street, this marks the second BC location after their popular Steveston Village spot.

The new eatery features a cozy atmosphere and a menu that includes Pork Cutlet Curry and Grilled Eel Curry Ramen.

Now you don’t need to make the trek to Steveston for that curry!

11. Tutto Belle Il Gelato

Kitsilano welcomed its newest Italian gelato destination, Tutto Belle Il Gelato, in March 2024.

The shop offers classic Italian gelato with innovative flavors like Madagascar Vanilla, Cheese Fig, and Cinnamon Apple Pie.

During our Ice Cream Festival, Tutto Belle went viral for its mochi gelato!

12. Haidilao Hot Pot Brentwood

Haidilao Hot Pot, the popular chain famed for its exceptional service and unique dining atmosphere, finally opened its The Amazing Brentwood this year after a longggg delay.

This is also BC’s largest location that accommodates 200 diners and has 2 private rooms.

Although there is a lot of hot pot now available in Burnaby, Haidilao was the only major hot pot chain previously missing in the city.

13. Selene Aegean Bistro

Selene Aegean Bistro is a new Greek-Mediterranean restaurant brought to you by the same folks behind Michelin Recommended Nammos Estiatorio.

The menu features contemporary dishes inspired by traditional flavours of the Aegean region, including small and large shareable plates, crafted cocktails, and an extensive wine list.

The restaurant offers an elegant yet relaxed dining atmosphere, making it suitable for a range of guests from families to couples on date night.
