Burnaby Just Lost A Hidden Gem For Korean Fried Chicken (And It Happened Suddenly)

It is a sad day for the Burnaby Edmonds neighbourhood.

A well-rated, family-run hidden gem that served some of the best Korean comfort food in Burnaby has shut its doors.

Na-Re Korean Kitchen shared the heartbreaking news on their Instagram Tuesday (Jan. 6th), that the restaurant has closed for good.

The closure seems to have happened incredibly abruptly.

In the emotional notice, the team explained that “due to unforeseen circumstances,” they were unable to announce the closure until the very last day.

The message was signed “Love, Nare,” thanking every “customer, friend, and neighbor” who supported the business since it opened.

For locals, this one stings.

Na-Re opened back in 2020 and became a popular choice for a cozy, home-style Korean meal.

While they offered classics like Bulgogi and Japchae, many (ourselves included) would argue they had some of the best Korean Fried Chicken in Burnaby.

Crispy, saucy (multiple options!), and unpretentious.

While the announcement felt sudden, the writing may have been on the wall for a few months.

Back in the Fall, we noticed that the restaurant unit had been listed for sale.

That listing has since been taken down, sparking curiosity about whether a new tenant has already snapped up the space.

However, this might not be a total goodbye.

The caption of their farewell post left a small breadcrumb for fans, stating: “Please continue to follow as we hope to do something special in the future”.

That MIGHT mean a pop-up, a new location, or a different concept entirely.

We will be keeping a close watch.

Na-Re joins a growing list of recent closures in Burnaby, including Thaigo at Brentwood and Dinesty on Kingsway.
