Another quiet closure has hit Downtown Vancouver.
Barra Gitano in Davie Village has shut down after less than 2 years in business.
We spotted a notice on the door confirming the news, even though the Google listing still says temporarily closed.

But this one is not a temporary break.
A new spot called Davie Social is already in the process of taking over the space.

Barra Gitano opened back on July 4, 2024, offering casual Mexican and Latin-inspired fare for brunch and late night drinks.
The menu featured dishes like pork belly tacos, birria noodle soup, and shareable plates designed for groups looking to grab a bite.
It was meant to be a laid-back spot where you could drop in for a quick meal or linger over housemade cocktails late into the night.
It took over the former Mary’s on Davie location, the iconic corner unit on Bute and Davie Street.

Barra Gitano was a sister restaurant to The Flying Pig, Ophelia Cocina Mexicana, and Monarca.
It is unclear exactly when the last day was, but the closure seems to have happened sometime in early January 2026.
As for what is coming next, Davie Social will be offering Mexican-Canadian fusion soon.
Barra Gitano now joins a growing list of Vancouver food spots that have recently closed like Chammani, Famoso Pizzeria on Commercial Drive, and Grandjoy Hot Pot.
