Many who step into the culinary world either bring with them years of industry experience or none at all. For the latter, they simply just walk into it.
The latter is the case for Hailey, the passionate force behind the newly launched Miss Scone, an online-only Korean scone specialty brand.
While the city has seen an influx of cookie and donut brands, this will be the first scone specialty shop.
The birth of Miss Scone
Transitioning from a completely unrelated field, Hailey followed her love for home baking, dreaming of owning a bakery or café.
Despite the challenges, she took a daring leap of faith, traveled to Korea and immersed herself in specialized scone-making classes.
Inspired by her desire to offer uncommon yet delicious pastries in Canada, Hailey founded Miss Scone. She had always found local scones to be dry and less enjoyable. However, her discovery of a different kind of scone in Korea sparked an idea.
“…when I tried scones in Korea, they were completely different. They were moist and could be infused with various flavours, which was a revelation for me. I wanted to share this amazing experience with people in Canada, so I decided to start Miss Scone.” Hailey explained.
What’s the deal with the scones?
What sets Miss Scone apart is the unique texture of the scones — crispy on the outside, moist within — quite different from the traditionally dry Canadian scones.
Hailey also focuses heavily on recipe development, continuously creating new offerings and flavours every week to keep customers excited. This means a fresh flavour based on what fruit or ingredient is in season.
With a changing lineup of over 12 flavours, both sweet and savoury, Miss Scone offers something for everyone.
Discussing her favourite, Hailey shared, “My personal favourite scone among the ones I make is the Green Onion Cream Cheese Scone. When you warm it up in an air fryer for 2-3 minutes, the flavours of green onion and cheddar cheese become even more delightful.”
On the customer favourites, she revealed, that the most popular scone flavours have been the Earl Grey Scone and the Raspberry Jam Scone.
Whether you fancy plain, sweet or breakfast scones, you have the option to order a single, box of 4 or a box of 6. Opting for a box of 6 means getting an adorable bright pink branded box with your order at no extra cost.
With Miss Scone still in its early days and just “grand opening” earlier this month, Hailey is already planning to begin offering delivery for her items and supply local cafes.
So if you’ve got a picnic date, a family gathering, or just some planned self-indulgence, you can get your hands on some scones by pre-ordering here.
