It seems like Metro Vancouver’s cafe scene just keeps growing, and we’re definitely not mad about it.
Well, it looks like another one is gearing up to open!
We spotted the signage for Jack’s Spot earlier this week, and it’s taking over the old Minus Boutique unit on Kingsway.
Now, it looks like this space is about to get a delicious makeover.
Jack’s Spot Cafe is the brainchild of chef and owner Stephanie Wong, who shared with Noms Magazine that the cafe is inspired by her cheeky Jack Russell dog, Jack.
Apparently, Jack has a thing for sourdough bread and sweets, and his boundless appetite serves as the creative spirit for the cafe.
You’ll even see Jack himself featured in the logo and window art—it’s totally adorable.
Locals likely won’t be familiar with Stephanie, but she actually has an impressive culinary career.
According to the profile report by Mingchu, at 32, Stephanie left her banking job, went to culinary school, worked under some MICHENLIN restaurants and then opened a restaurant called Roots in Hong Kong.
Roots, which opened in 2018, blended Hong Kong-style cooking with French techniques.
ALL of that in a span of 18 months.
Her restaurant also ended up earning several accolades like the Tatler Dining Best Restaurant Award and a spot on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants’ “Essence of Asia” list in 2021.
But three and a half years later, Stephanie decided it was time to close Roots and start a new chapter.
That chapter is now unfolding right here in Vancouver with Jack’s Spot Cafe.
Stephanie shared that Jack’s Spot will feature freshly baked croissants, sourdough loaves, French pastries, and sweets, alongside coffee drinks crafted with beans from local roasters.
She describes the space as a cozy spot for people to connect, and we can already picture ourselves hanging out there with a latte and a flaky pastry.
Speaking of the space, the interior is still in progress when we snapped a photo, but it’s already showing off some serious charm.
The design blends clean lines, soft wood tables, and sleek mirrors, giving off a modern-yet-inviting vibe.
Once it’s complete, it looks like it’ll be a perfect spot for casual hangs, work sessions, or just grabbing a treat to go.
Stephanie lastly shared that Jack’s Spot is aiming to open in the next two weeks.
Jack’s Spot will be soon joining other newly opened cafes in the Metro Vancouver like Aidan’s Cafe, Hooray Coffee Lab, VERONI & Co. 2.0, Modus Coffee Sperling, and Cafe Episode.
