New Katsu and Ramen Bar Quietly Opens In Vancouver

With Vancouver’s cold, wet weather settling in, you’re probably craving something hot and comforting.

Luckily, the city just got a new ramen and katsu spot that might be just what you need.

While catching up with an old friend, we decided to check out Ryu, a Katsu and Ramen Bar that opened in October along West Broadway and Arbutus Street.

They took over the previous Gyo Para unit after its owner Takashi retired back in August.

Ryu offers an impressive variety of ramen to warm your soul.

Their menu includes classics like shio, miso, and shoyu ramen, along with tori paitan and even vegan options.

There’s definitely more variety here than you’d find at your typical ramen specialty shop, making it a great place to explore new flavours.

If you’re into katsu, you’ll feel right at home with Ryu’s katsu sets.

Similar to what you’d find at popular spots like Katsuya or Saku, these sets come with all the trimmings—a large tray featuring different sauces, miso soup, salad, and rice.

You have options including pork loin, pork tenderloin, pork cheese, chicken, a prawn and shrimp set, tofu, or an assorted katsu platter.

Plus, the miso soup is refillable!

At the end of the meal, Ryu adds a delightful touch by offering a scoop of ice cream to round out your dining experience.

You have the choice between black sesame, matcha, yuzu, and lychee.

The ambiance at Ryu is warm (and orange) and simple, creating a cozy vibe perfect for chilly evenings.

The only small drawback is the seating—metal stools without back support aren’t the most comfortable for long, leisurely meals.

If you’re looking for a new spot to get your ramen or katsu fix this season, Ryu on West Broadway might just become your go-to comfort food haven.
