If you have a box of Pizza Pops sitting in your freezer right now, you need to go check the label immediately.

A massive recall has just been issued that affects households across British Columbia and the rest of Canada.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a warning on December 21st for the Pillsbury brand Pizza Pops Pepperoni + Bacon.

The 4 specific products are being pulled from the marketplace due to possible E. coli O26 contamination.

This is not just a precautionary measure for a labeling error.

The recall was triggered by findings during an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak.

The Public Health Agency of Canada is currently investigating an outbreak of human illness associated with this issue.

The agency is explicitly warning consumers not to consume, serve, or sell the recalled product.

Food contaminated with E. coli O26 may not look or smell spoiled but it can still make you sick.

Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, and severe abdominal cramps.

In severe cases, it can lead to kidney damage or even death.

If you have the Pepperoni + Bacon variety in your freezer, do not try to cook it to “kill” the bacteria.

You are instructed to throw the products out or return them to the location where they were purchased.

This is a staple item for many families in BC, especially with school holidays around the corner.

Make sure to check your stash and warn your friends who might have stocked up recently.

If you think you became sick from consuming a recalled product, you should contact your healthcare provider immediately.

The CFIA is continuing its food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.
