Popular Richmond Food Court Stall Returns with New Restaurant on “Food Street”

If you have been missing the taste of authentic Northern Chinese breakfast, a new spot on Richmond’s food street has the answer.

O’Bistro Tianjin soft-opened on Alexandra Road earlier this November.

It took over the corner unit previously occupied by HuDa Restaurant, which quietly closed down after a short 1 year run.

Locals might feel a sense of deja vu when they step inside.

The owners have kept much of the previous furnishing, including the large wall mural that HuDa left behind.

But while the simple decor is familiar, the food is a complete pivot.

As the name suggests, the kitchen is focused entirely on Tianjin cuisine.

The soft launch menu is currently limited, but it hits the heavy hitters of Northern Chinese breakfast and snacks.

We are talking about Tianjin Crepes (Jianbing Guozi), savoury or sweet tofu soup, sesame flatbreads, and Chinese donuts.

They also have a lineup of steamed pork and lamb buns, wonton soup, and lamb noodles for those needing something heartier.

If the menu sounds familiar, there is a good reason for that.

The owner previously operated O’Tray, a food court stall in the President Plaza that served the community for over a decade before closing in 2023 after the lease was over.

This marks their return to the Richmond food scene, but this time in a full dine-in space.

The staff shared that the full menu is expected to roll out in December adding pan-fried buns and dumplings options to the list.

O’Bistro Tianjin joins a wave of new openings in Richmond, including The Seoulful, Trees Organic Capstan, and 88 Malaysian Crystal BBQ.
