Numerous eateries and food establishments are unfortunately shutting down, yet certain chains are persistently growing across Metro Vancouver.
Saku, a renowned Japanese Tonkatsu eatery, is on the move, expanding its presence.
In August, our community noticed a “Coming Soon” banner for the first Richmond branch of Saku.
The crew at Saku has informed us that they are all set for a soft launch of their latest branch Saturday, February 3rd and grand open on Feb 9 & 10 (details below).
This new outlet is situated at the Central at Garden City Plaza, a shopping center that is also home to Walmart, Tsujiri, and Banh Mi Tres Bon.
Who is Saku?
Saku opened in 2018 and quickly made a name for itself as the city’s first Japanese Tonkatsu (think mouthwatering fried pork cutlet) specialty restaurant.
The founders spent two years researching the art of Tonkatsu, traveling to Japan, Korea, New York, and Toronto to sample various offerings.
Their ultimate goal? To transport the authentic Japanese Tonkatsu experience right to Vancouver’s doorstep.
The perfect Tonkatsu at Saku begins with pork sourced from an Alberta farm that also exports to Japan, and their unique homemade panko, courtesy of local bakeries.
From the serving platter to the accompanying side dishes, every detail is painstakingly curated to deliver a genuine Tonkatsu experience.
Welcome to Saku Richmond
The interior is designed again by the talented Korean design studio, Minah Space. The studio was the mastermind behind the designs for the Robson and Coquitlam Saku.
They have also worked on other local favourites like Mello, Tom Sushi, Tozen Sushi Bar.
The Richmond outpost will have a similar feel, vibe, and design as the other Saku counterparts – a warm wood minimal aesthetic.
Menu wise – the Saku team has informed us it will be mainly the same as their other locations. That means the katsu sets all Saku fans know and love!
However, the Richmond branch will have some new items only available at this location like the Tomahawk Katsu.
The Richmond Saku will be the brand’s 4th branch in Metro Vancouver, joining the recently opened Burquitlam outpost that welcomed diners earlier this May.
The official grand opening of this Richmond location is set for February 9th until 10th where when you order any Katsu set, you get a free side of Ebi Katsu. This is only eligible for the first 100 customers per day.
