A month ago, Vancouver said goodbye to a true local legend.
After nearly 30 years in operation, Sea House Fish & Chips closed its doors in May, sending off generations of loyal customers who grew up with their beloved thin-battered cod and nostalgic $9.50 lunch combos.
But if you were one of the many still mourning that crispy goodness, there’s good news!
Sea House is making a return. Kind of.
Spotted by a Noms Mag community member (@leemiss_), Noople Noodle & Dumpling House is now taking over the old Sea House unit on Kingsway.

According to signage posted in the window and confirmed by Noople, the original chefs (aka the grandma) from Sea House are joining their team, and their iconic fish and chips will now be part of Noople’s permanent menu.
The new restaurant will be serving up a mashup of Sichuan-style noodles, xiao long bao, and spicy dumplings, alongside those beloved fish and chips.
It’s a bold combo of comfort food classics and modern Chinese eats, something you don’t quite see.
Sea House was lovingly run by two women affectionately known as “the grandmas” by longtime regulars.
One of them is actually the daughter of the elder, but both played a central role in the shop’s story.
Noople tells us that the daughter, who many knew as the “younger grandma”, will be taking over the cooking at the new spot.
As for Grandma herself?
“There will always be a cozy corner in the kitchen just for Grandma,” Noople shared. “Her daughter will take over the cooking. Grandma might still be there — watching, or supervising. Or maybe she’ll just relax. It’s entirely up to her.”
As for whether the fish and chips pricing remains intact, Noople shared that they will keep things the same for now.
Noople has not shared an exact opening date yet but says it will be announced very soon.
If you missed your chance to get one last Sea House combo, this might just be the comeback you didn’t expect—but definitely deserve.
Same hands. Same recipes. Just a little more chili oil in the mix.
