A longtime Italian restaurant in Kitsilano has served its last plate after two decades in the neighbourhood.

Buca di Roma, located along Macdonald Street in Vancouver, has permanently closed.

The restaurant shared the news on Instagram on January 12, writing, “after many unforgettable years around the table, the time has come for us to say goodbye.”

The post continued: “What started as a restaurant became a place of connection, celebration, and shared moments, and that’s because of you.”

Buca di Roma’s final day of service was January 25, 2026.

The restaurant had been a staple on the quiet stretch of Macdonald Street for 20 years, known for its intimate atmosphere and Italian menu that featured antipasti, house-made pasta, and a curated wine list.

The restaurant held a 4.6 rating on Google, with regulars praising the consistency of both the food and the service.

No specific reason was given for the closure.

The space will not stay empty for long though.

A sushi restaurant called HOMI Sushi is already in the process of taking over the unit at the same address.

Not much is known about Homi Sushi at this point, and the brand does not appear to have a public website or social media presence yet.

Buca di Roma joins the list of recently closed food spots in Vancouver like Oh My Toast, Isabelle’s, and Rori Momo.
