One of Japan’s most iconic convenience store items is about to land in Canada.

7-Eleven Canada is launching its own version of the Tamago Sando, the Japanese-style egg salad sandwich that has been a best-seller at 7-Eleven Japan for over a decade.

The sandwich will be available at 7-Eleven locations across Canada starting March 4, priced at $5.

The Canadian version is made with cage-free eggs, authentic Japanese Kewpie mayonnaise, and fresh shokupan, which is a soft, fluffy Japanese milk bread.

It was developed by 7-Eleven Canada’s executive chef Benny Cheng, who focused on using authentic ingredients and ratios to stay true to the original.

One notable detail is that the Canadian version will be crustless, making it more faithful to the original Japanese sandwich.

That is a key difference from the American version, which launched in December 2025 and drew mixed reviews partly because it kept the crust on.

The Tamago Sando is a staple of konbini culture in Japan, where 24-hour convenience stores like 7-Eleven are known for offering surprisingly high-quality prepared foods.

The sandwich has a devoted following among tourists and locals alike, and even caught the attention of the late Anthony Bourdain, who described the bread as “pillows of love.”

Marc Goodman, Vice President and General Manager of 7-Eleven Canada, said the company has heard “loud and clear from Canadians that they want more of the products that make 7-Eleven Japan a tourist destination.”

The launch comes at a time when Canadian interest in Japan is at an all-time high.

In 2024, a record-breaking 580,000 Canadians visited Japan, according to the Japan National Tourism Office, and visitor numbers continued to climb in 2025.

For anyone who has visited Japan and tried the original at a 7-Eleven there, the Canadian version is positioned as the closest thing to the real deal available at home.

Whether it lives up to the hype, we will have to see for ourselves once it is out.

The sandwich will be available at all 550 7-Eleven Canada locations from Ontario to British Columbia.
