The family-run frozen custard pop-up that quietly became one of Vancouver’s most talked-about dessert spots is finally getting a permanent home.
Lucy’s Frozen Custard has announced it is opening its first dedicated storefront in Strathcona, taking over the former Liquids + Solids unit at 901 East Hastings Street.
The team shared the news on Instagram alongside a renovation reel showing the empty space being prepped for its transformation.
“This space is where Lucy’s next chapter is coming to life, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you,” the team wrote.
If you are not familiar with Lucy’s, here is the quick version.
The business is run by Shannon and Brian, a Vancouver couple who named it after their daughter Lucy, whose bold ideas and generous spirit inspired the whole thing.
We first covered Lucy’s when they launched as a weekend-only pop-up in East Vancouver, serving what they called the city’s first real frozen custard.

Unlike regular ice cream, frozen custard uses more egg yolk and has much less air churned in, giving it a denser, silkier, ultra-creamy texture.
To get the technique right, Shannon and Brian flew all the way to Missouri, the heartland of frozen custard in the U.S., and invested in a special custard-making machine to bring the real thing back to Vancouver.
The menu keeps things simple.
You can get your custard in a cup or cone, or go for a “mixie,” which is a custard swirl blended with house-made cookies or chocolate.

Lucy’s is also a completely tip-free business, so if you are someone who dreads that awkward tip screen moment, this might be your kind of spot.
Until now, Lucy’s has only been available through limited weekend windows.
A permanent storefront in Strathcona changes everything for the brand and gives the neighbourhood a unique new dessert option that does not exist anywhere else in the city.
The space previously housed Liquids + Solids, a longtime neighbourhood cafe that closed its Hastings Street location earlier this year after 12+ years of operation.
No exact opening date has been announced yet, but the shop is slated to open this summer.
Lucy’s joins other upcoming food spots in Vancouver like Meros, Eggslut, and 88 Supermarket Joyce.
