A popular Vancouver salad chain is expanding into one of the city’s fastest-changing neighbourhoods this spring.

Field and Social has confirmed that it is opening a fifth location at South Flats, the mixed-use development along Great Northern Way in East Vancouver.

The new spot takes over a former Freshii unit on Great Northern Way, with signage already up in the windows reading “Coming Spring 2026.”

If you are not familiar with South Flats, you are not alone.

The name refers to a growing creative district that stretches between Main Street and Commercial Drive along Great Northern Way.

It is anchored by Emily Carr University of Art and Design, Vancouver Community College, and the Centre for Digital Media, with companies like Electronic Arts, Samsung, and Lululemon also based in the area.

The neighbourhood has been steadily adding residential towers and retail over the past few years, and now food options are starting to follow.

Field and Social has been a fixture in Vancouver’s lunch scene since 2016, when cofounders Barbora, Ali, and Moe launched the concept with a focus on salads that actually taste good.

The brand currently operates four locations across the city at Dunsmuir, Yaletown, Mount Pleasant, and Royal Centre.

Their menu revolves around salads built with scratch-made dressings, locally sourced meats and herbs, and greens that are cut fresh daily.

They also serve sandwiches, and everything on the menu is developed with input from a dietitian.

If you have tried their Thai Peanut salad, a dollar from every order goes to Breakfast Club of Canada.

The brand also partners with local companies like Flourist, Two Rivers Meats, and Skipper Otto, which gives the menu a distinctly Vancouver feel.

The South Flats location will be their fifth overall and the first in the Great Northern Way corridor, an area that has lacked quick-service lunch spots compared to the density of students and office workers nearby.

Given the foot traffic from the surrounding universities and tech campuses, the location makes a lot of sense for a brand that has built its reputation on the weekday lunch crowd.

No exact opening date has been confirmed yet, but the signage says spring 2026, which puts it in the coming weeks.

Field and Social joins a growing list of upcoming food spots across Vancouver like Tahini’s downtown, Lucy’s Strathcona, and Meros.
