One of the West End’s longest-running Korean spots has served its last meal on Cardero Street.

Kosoo has permanently closed its original Cardero location, the restaurant where the whole brand started back in 2015.

The closure landed on June 28, capping an 11-year run in the West End.

In true bittersweet fashion, the team only shared the news on Instagram two days before the doors closed for good.

It is with mixed emotions that we announce Kosoo Cardero will permanently close, the restaurant wrote, thanking guests for 11 years of meals, celebrations, and memories.

The post leaned into gratitude rather than explanation, so the reason behind the closure was not spelled out.

The team said it hoped to welcome guests again at its Robson Street location, promising the same quality, care, and hospitality regulars had come to know.

Kosoo built its name here as a Korean kitchen known for modern fusion takes on Korean cuisine and fried chicken before growing into a small local group.

The Cardero room was the original, the one that started it all in 2015.

From that single West End address, Kosoo grew into a three-location group, adding the Robson Street spot and a Coquitlam location.

Two days of notice is a short window to say goodbye to an 11-year neighbourhood fixture.

The good news for regulars is that this is not the end of Kosoo.

The signature dishes you came to Cardero for will keep being served at Kosoo Robson, just a few blocks away on Robson Street.

The Coquitlam location is also staying open, so two of the three Kosoo restaurants are carrying on.

Kosoo Cardero now joins other recently closed food spots in Vancouver like Pokey Okey Kingsway, Hem377, and Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba UBC.
