Forty-eight seconds of video, a flipped wooden bench, and a man shouting that he has guns at a burger counter on Nelson Street.
The clip was filmed inside Burger Crush at 755 Nelson Street, the 40-seat downtown burger shop that took over the old Johnny Rockets room in January 2023.
It surfaced on August 31, when the X account Vancity Vice posted it, misnaming the shop “Burger Smash” and dating the incident to Friday, August 28.
The video opens with a large wooden dining bench already on its side on the tile floor.

One man in a black graphic T-shirt and grey sweatpants stands on the base of the flipped bench, yelling profanities and slurs at the employees behind the counter.
A second man in a black hoodie stands at the order counter.
Within seconds the first man is shouting “I got guns” and claiming to be facing murder charges.
“You know Brother’s Keepers?” he asks the staff, naming a BC gang that the RCMP’s gang suppression unit described in 2021 as “prominent and violent.”
While he talks, the second man sweeps a stack of papers, receipts and order markers off the counter and onto the floor.
The first man points at the staff and tells them they are “about to go viral over the weekend.”
Then both walk toward the glass door, the first still shouting: “We got guns. We got killers. We gangsters.”
The man stops outside the open door for one last line into the restaurant: “Welcome to Vancouver… We got gangsters, we got guns, we the ones doing the shooting.”
Through all of it, the employees stay behind the counter.
Nobody raises a voice back, and nobody picks up the bench until the men are gone.
No weapon is visible at any point in the video.
Police were called that night.
On September 3, the Vancouver Police Department confirmed it is investigating.
The men left before officers arrived.
“We understand there is significant public interest in this incident. It is disturbing and unacceptable, not just to police, but to the staff and patrons of the restaurant,” said Inspector Erin Roulston. “Investigators are reviewing all available evidence, including CCTV footage, to determine what occurred and if criminal charges are appropriate.”
Police also released four CCTV stills of the two men, labelled Suspect #1 and Suspect #2, and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or can identify them to call 604-717-3321.
Burger Crush itself has not posted about it.
Co-owner Scott Renton started the shop as a Victoria food truck in 2018 and brought it to Nelson Street in 2023.
