A new Chinese restaurant offering rice rolls, seafood and BBQ is coming to Richmond.
It is taking over the old Tasty BBQ unit on Richmond’s Westminster Highway.
We spotted signage for the new spot called Taste of Guangzhou Restaurant at 180-7771 Westminster Highway, right next to Shanghai Taste.

Above the English name, the sign reads 發財 大排檔.
The second part is dai pai dong, the Cantonese name for an open-air food stall.
A column of characters beside it makes the pitch plainly: 好吃不貴, or tasty and not expensive.
We’re always up for an affordable spot, but without the menu prices, that’s still up in the air whether it is true or not.
The signage lists four things on offer: rice rolls, seafood, BBQ and special stir fry.
The restaurant’s Red Note account goes well past the sign, with a poster of 11 Guangzhou dishes and a call for followers to pick the three they want to try first.

Most of the photos, though, are of the room, which is worthy of featuring.
Inside, the decor fuses old Guangzhou with the modern.
The walls are wrapped in murals of an old Guangzhou street, shop houses, a green tram and a family sitting down to dim sum.
Lit-up signs styled like old shop signboards hang from the ceiling, including one for its stone-ground rice rolls and another reading 市井大排档 地道广府香, roughly a neighbourhood dai pai dong with authentic Cantonese flavour.

Below them, green banquettes curve around round marble tables in rattan-backed booths, and the windows are framed with stained-glass panels.
Several private rooms were also featured, each with a big round table and lazy Susan, fit for a nice family gathering.

There’s even a herbal tea counter, Kuan Jie Herbal Tea Shop, with a painted sign promising traditional liang cha.
The dish poster includes tangerine peel roast goose, roast pigeon, suckling pig roasted on volcanic stone, live seafood, sizzling claypots, claypot rice, stone-ground rice rolls and stone pot congee.
According to the post, the roast goose is roasted to order and the live seafood is weighed when you order it.

The posts also mention handmade dim sum.
From what it sounds, there are a lot of good things going on here: a beautiful decor for photos and a rather large menu with variety.
The restaurant said it expects to open in November.
Tasty BBQ & Beer Bar opened in this unit in March 2021 as a Chinese skewer and beer spot.
Its menu leaned on Angus beef skewers and braised pig head with crepes, and it kept the lights on until 11:30pm.
Late in August, the sign came down, and the promo signage on the side of the building changed soon after.
It was the brand’s second goodbye in a little over a year, after its Downtown Vancouver location on Beach Avenue closed by June 2025.
The owners are potentially the same people behind Tasty BBQ, which would make this a swap of concepts rather than a new tenant, though nobody has confirmed it.
If roast goose and rice rolls are your go-to, this is one to watch on Westminster Highway in November.
Taste of Guangzhou joins other upcoming Richmond spots like Trusty Congee King, Lai San Wan Noodles and Sangoku.
