It looks like Main Street is getting another fish and chips spot!
VIA spotted signage has gone up for Cockney Kings Fish & Chips right beside the Shameful Tiki Room, signaling that the longtime brand is preparing to open a new Vancouver location.
This will mark their second outpost in the city following their Kitsilano shop, which opened in 2023.
Cockney Kings is far from new to the scene.
Established in 1965 by Len Evans, the shop quickly became known for its two-piece breaded cod and freshly made chips.
Today, it operates locations in Burnaby, New Westminster, and Kitsilano, and has built a loyal following of locals who swear by their all-you-can-eat fish and chips deal and hearty portions.
Current owner Daniel Turner has a history with Cockney Kings that goes deeper than ownership.
He first worked at the Hastings Street location at just 11 years old as a dishwasher, and by 26 he had purchased the New Westminster location from the original owners.
Turner credits their signature light batter, fried in beef lard, as the secret that keeps people coming back.
Itโs still unclear if the new Main Street spot will offer the same all-you-can-eat fish and chips that runs from Monday to Wednesday at some locations.
Like Kitsilano, this new outpost may stick to the standard menu.
What is clear is that they are already hiring staff, meaning an opening announcement could be coming soon.
Once open, Cockney Kings will be going head-to-head with Fish Counter just down the block in a battle for Main Street fish and chips supremacy.
Cockney Kings Main Street now joins a lineup of upcoming Vancouver food spots including Kuro Katsu, Charm Thai Eatery, and Dante on Commercial Drive.
