Another Quiet East Van Cafe Closure — And a New Name on the Sign

It looks like another quiet closure has slipped under the radar.

Pane E Formaggio, the Italian bakery cafe known for its artisanal breads and cozy atmosphere, has quietly closed its East Hastings location.

The space, which first opened in 2021, is already home to a new cafe called Nok Nok.

For years, the bakery was a reliable stop for freshly baked sourdough loaves, soft challah bread with sesame seeds, and hearty multigrain rounds.

Regulars also loved the lineup of sandwiches, like the chipotle chicken on focaccia or the turkey and cranberry on sourdough, that made lunch runs feel a bit more comforting.

Their shelves were often stacked with thick-crusted olive loaves, crunchy sourdoughs, and kid-friendly white and whole wheat breads.

It wasn’t just bread, though; the spot offered massive cookies, muffins, smoothies, and coffee drinks that made it a local favourite for both quick stops and slow mornings.

But sometime around August 2025, the East Hastings storefront quietly shut its doors.

There was no farewell post or window note, just the Pane E Formaggio signage replaced by something new.

The new tenant, Nok Nok Cafe, adds another player to the evolving East Van coffee scene.

Pane E Formaggio continues to operate at its other locations around Metro Vancouver.

Pane E Formaggio now joins a growing list of restaurants that have recently closed their doors, including Ole Restaurant, Best Rice Roll, and Little Cafe.
