What Is So Popular About Trout Lake Park?
Before it became a favourite chill-out spot, Trout Lake actually used to be a source of water supply in the 1860s. It supplied water at the Hastings Mill but eventually stopped when the city built its own water system. Soon after, it became famous for being a skating spot.

As a popular dog park, Lake Trout has an off-leash area where your dog can roam around freely and safely. The off-leash hours are 5 am to 10 pm and of course, you’re required to pick up after your dog.
You can expect your dog to be dead tired when they get home because the area is large filled with lots of other dogs to interact and play with.
Try Out Activities At The Community Centre
The community centre at Trout Lake is a place where you can try out different programs depending on your needs and preferences.
They currently have programs such as an art-making program for individuals 16 years old and above. They also offer a french learning program for children between the ages of 1 to 4 years old.
Of course, fitness is never to be neglected when it comes to centres like these so you can expect a fitness gym inside where you can finally achieve your fitness goals.

It’s located at the northeast area of John Hendry Park just near 13th Avenue and Lakewood Drive. However, you should know that it’s not here all the time and it happens only from May to October.
Best time to visit Trout Lake Park
The best months to visit Trout Lake is during June, July, August, and September. During these months, the temperature is warm, and most of the time, there are fewer people too!
You can also go during Spring if you want to see the beautiful Cherry Blossoms all around the place.
Tips & What To Know Before Going To Trout Lake Park
Keep an eye out for your dog
The off-leash area is more than 2 hectares and is actually way larger than you might think. If your dog is very playful and loves to go on an adventure, he will love this place but since it’s huge, you might want to look out for him just in case he goes to an area too far.
The Farmer’s Market takes up some big parking spot.
If you happen to go to Trout Lake at the same time when The Farmer’s Market is being held, you should know that this market takes up a big space in parking.
With that, you might just want to commute on the way here or you’ll just have to take some extra few minutes on looking for a free parking space.
The swimming raft is only available during summertime.
If you’re purposely visiting this place to have a relaxing time on the swimming raft, schedule your visit only in the summer. The swimming raft isn’t always there for use. It’s only brought out during the hot season.
Parking At Trout Lake Park
For the parking at Trout Lake, there are two large parking lots at opposite sides of the park. One is usually taken up when the Farmer’s Market is in action.
You can, however, park anywhere near the vicinity. Typically, the parking nearby is always free. Remember that resident-only parking areas are strict so be cautious before you park.
Take note, you are only allowed to park for 30 minutes while unloading people or items for these 3 areas areas except for the resident-only zones where you’re allowed to park for a maximum of 3 hours.
If you don’t have a SPARC permit, there are four accessible parking spaces located at the east end of the market. This is north-facing between 13th Ave and Grandview Hwy.
