Just last week, we shared the sad news about Simit Bakery’s Robson location closing down.
Now, it seems that their West Broadway outpost has also shut its doors for good.
The Turkish bakery cafe quietly closed its West Broadway location, adding to the growing list of businesses affected by the ongoing Millennium Line’s Broadway Extension to Arbutus.
On June 5th, a user on Vancouver’s Reddit shared a photo showing a sign on the West Broadway location stating it was permanently closed.

Another sign below read, “Sorry we couldn’t make it due to the construction.”
This closure isn’t entirely surprising.
According to a report by the Vancouver Sun, Simit Bakery manager Koray Yuce mentioned that the construction has been a significant struggle for the business over the last two years.
They actually already planned to close for good since March.
It was the recent announcement of the project’s delay until late 2027 that pushed them to make the decision.
The impact on small businesses due to this construction is reminiscent of the devastation along Cambie Street during the Canada Line development.
Many businesses have faced similar struggles, unable to cope with the disruptions and decreased foot traffic.
Simit Bakery has been a beloved brand since its start in 2018.
Known for their traditional Simit, crisp sesame-studded bread rings, and delightful treats like San Sebastian Cheesecake and flaky Bourek, they will be missed in the West Broadway area.
With the closure of both the Robson and West Broadway locations, the only remaining Simit Bakery is in Kitsilano.
Pastry lovers in Vancouver will have to make their way there to enjoy their delicious offerings.
