Famous Brazilian Steakhouse Quietly Cancels Plans For First Vancouver Location

Last updated:

It seems that a highly anticipated restaurant has quietly pulled the plug on its plans to open its first Canadian location in downtown Vancouver.

Fogo de Chão, the famous Brazilian steakhouse known for its churrasco (roasting meat over an open flame), had promised Vancouverites an exciting dining experience.

Just last year, Fogo de Chão unveiled its ambitious plan to open a massive 7,778-sq.ft flagship restaurant at The Post, a revitalization of the historic Canada Post building.

The Brazilian restaurant aimed to debut in 2024, promising an elevated dining experience with an open-air churrasco bar, a dry-aged meat locker for in-house aging, and engaging social gathering spaces.

For many, it seemed like the perfect addition to the food scene in Vancouver, that is continuing to see international chains enter.

The first signs that things were going off course came in October when local community member Raincouvereatery posted on social media that the Fogo de Chão signage had mysteriously disappeared from The Post’s “Coming Soon” window display.

He followed up with Fogo de Chão directly and shared their response: the Vancouver location was no longer in the works.

Around the same time, a Reddit user International_Bus_64, shared their email thread with the restaurant revealed both the Vancouver and Toronto locations had been scrapped.

Even on The Post’s official website Fogo de Chão has been scrubbed off.

The Post’s Marketing Manager has confirmed with Noms Magazine that “We are no longer proceeding with Fogo de Chão at The Post but we hope to have additional updates to share in the near future.”

The cancellation leaves a noticeable void in The Post, which has been positioning itself as a new social hub for Vancouver.

Originally, Fogo de Chão’s Vancouver location was planned to be a major draw.

It was set to join other tenants at The Post, including The Joseph Richard Group, Loblaws City Market, Deville Coffee, and Evolve Strength, and was meant to offer Vancouverites and visitors alike a taste of Brazilian hospitality.

Can another international dining star step in to fill the gap left by Fogo de Chão’s exit?

Only time will tell, but for now, Vancouver’s food scene is left without one of the most anticipated newcomers on its horizon.
